Dental Examination Leicester

Showing modified bass brushing technique to a patient, highlighting importance of preventative oral hygiene habits.

At Smile Serenity Dental Care, we prioritise prevention over a cure and good oral hygiene habits can make your smile last a lifetime. A Dental Exam is what enables us to see the full picture, catch problems early, enforce good oral hygiene techniques and create a treatment plan that suits your needs.

A Dental Examination is recommended every 6 months important for catching any potential issues that could become more extensive and expensive to treat as time goes on.

If it has been a while since your last dental checkup, book with us At Smile Serenity Dental Care and we will take care of your Smile.

A New Dental Examination price at Smile Serenity Dental Care is £70

Joining our dental plan on the day of your examination has been designed to reduce the costs of routine dental appointments such as dental exams and dental cleans. On our dental plan, you also get 10% off any selected treatment, if you have any children under the age of 16, they also get a free dental checkup and the same 10% discount off selected treatment.

There are monthly and annual options for joining the dental plan for as little as £15 a month or £162 when paid annually. We have kept this low price since we opened back in 2021 as we believe dentistry should be made accessible. The monthly plan does not include the very first checkup cost, but the annual plan does, making the annual plan more cost effective in the long run.

What is a Dental Examination and the process at Smile Serenity Dental Care?

A Dental examination is a thorough non-invasive assessment of your oral health, diagnosis and forming a treatment plan. We discuss your main concerns regarding your dental issues or if you just want a dental checkup as it has been a while since your last dental exam.

We then go into your daily oral hygiene routine, from how often you brush a day, how often you floss, what toothbrush type you use, what toothpaste type you use, if you have tooth sensitivity or bleeding gums when brushing.

After this, we assess the head and neck, soft issues inside the oral cavity like the buccal mucosa, palate and tongue. We are making sure there are no abnormal signs of pathology and we screen for signs of oral cancer.

We assess your gum health by probing around the gingiva of your teeth, checking for any signs of bleeding/inflamed gums or pockets formed by bone loss. We always ensure you are made comfortable during the examination process and encourage patients to let us know if they are not, if it is the chair position or sensitive areas within your mouth.

After we start checking all your teeth and start charting for any signs of tooth wear, cavities, decay, fractures, missing teeth and existing restorations/prosthetic devices present like dentures.

We then take x-rays with your consent to check where we cannot visually see which is within the tooth, between teeth and checking bone levels that support your teeth. As the x-rays are being developed, we may do additional investigations if needed or take intra-oral photos. We then discuss the findings of your x-rays and go through the findings of your dental examination.

This is where we will explain your overall oral health, speak about preventative advice and oral hygiene techniques. We will talk about any problems what were discovered, the risks associated and the available treatment options for solving that problem. We will talk about each treatment option and discuss the process, advantages, disadvantages/risks and costs of each option.

We can also give a recommendation of which treatment may be best suited for yourself and ultimately creates a treatment plan with your informed consent. We usually have time to do a dental clean after your exam or we can book you with our hygienist at a time that is convenient for you.

Any questions you may have will be answered and if you have questions later, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us by phone or email. Our contact details can be found on our contact page by clicking here.

Benefits of Treatment and Why choose us?

A Dental examination is the best way to discover any problems early within your mouth and can treat them systematically to ensure your smile can last as long as you do. Understanding the full picture of your dental health can help the treatment planning process to know what treatment best suits you and your needs.

When we know your daily oral hygiene routine, from how often you brush a day, how often you floss, what toothbrush type you use, what toothpaste type you use; we can then provide advice to your technique if needed, to really ensure your dental health is kept at its best. We demonstrate the use of different oral hygiene tools available and give hands on practice to see how you get on with the new technique. Proper oral hygiene technique and good consistent habits can make all the difference to the longevity of your smile.

After assessing the head and neck, we can rule out pathology of oral cancer or investigate problems further when spotted. We check the health of your bite and jaw to make sure everything is functioning properly. Any pain associated with opening and closing of the jaw should be investigated further.

After assessing your gum health, this can prompt us to give oral hygiene advice or to book in for deep cleans to help prevent gum disease from progressively getting worse. If you have inflamed gums (gingivitis) this should be treated and reviewed to ensure it does not progress to bone loss (periodontitis) which can lead to wobbly (mobile) teeth and tooth loss.

Depending on discovered tooth wear, fractures, decay found within the mouth, we can then advise on different restorative treatments like fillings, crowns, or tooth replacement options. This can prevent problems becoming worse with time and can help stabilise your bite if these problems exist. If you have a lost filling and having discomfort, we recommend to book in for an Urgent Dental Appointment, as this appointment gives time to focus on the immediate problem and try to carry out treatment on the same visit. If pain is really bad, a root canal or extraction maybe needed instead of a filling. Click here to find out more about a root canal treatment and book in for an urgent appointment.

X-rays can reveal decay between teeth, which can be treated non-invasively with consistent interdental cleaning habits like flossing or may require dental treatments such as fillings or crowns if the decay has progressed deeper into the tooth. If decay has reached the nerve, then more advanced procedures like root canals or dental extractions may be necessary to solve the problem. Catching problems early is key and encourage patients to have dental examinations done every 6 months.

Ignorance can be bliss, but problems left undiagnosed/untreated will eventually cause a more extensive problem that is harder to treat. Preventative advice is massively underrated, and we are making sure our patients know how they can best protect their smile with tailored oral hygiene techniques. Any problems that were discovered, we ensure patients fully understand the risks associated and the available treatment options in detail so that you can make the best-informed decision for your oral health.

Our recommendation can assist you with making the best decision for you regarding your dental treatment. Whether to monitor a situation or intervene with dental treatment, it is all about finding that perfect balance between advantages/risks to make the right decision for you.

We encourage patients to ask us anything that they did not understand or would like to go into more detail about their dental care.

We always aim to carry out a thorough dental examination and our exam/dental plan prices have not increased since 2021, giving you incredible value for your Smile.

Being a wheelchair user with respiratory issues and a severely curved spine, not many Dentist have the facilities to accommodate me, which in 2026 is diabolical. I had been searching for a private dentist who could carefully undertake the treatment I needed as my NHS one had referred me to a community dentist, which was a two month wait. I needed the issues sorting ASAP, and found Smile Serenity. My initial examination with Dr Ashwyn Roy was great. He was warm, friendly and put me at ease. He listened, answered every question I had and explained the procedures thoroughly. Initially I did think the dentist room was a bit small and was concerned that my treatment may not be accomplished here but I was reassured everything would be made accessible and comfortable for me. On the day of my treatment - the room had plenty of space for me to tilt my chair into a comfortable position, and my procedure- an old filling removal replaced with a new one-was done. During the procedure I was anxious but there really was no need to be as Dr Roy was very patient with me. He stopped when I needed a break, went at my pace. I never felt rushed. I have no anxiety now for the rest of my treatments booked here. If anyone needs a new private dentist, this is the one you should go to. And if you are a NHS patient and need your issues sorting fast or even an emergency appointment-this is where you need to come. Truly fabulous!

FAQs

Are you Private Dental Practice or an NHS (Mixed) Dental Practice ?

We are a fully private dental practice, and do not offer NHS dental services.

How much is a clinical examination?

A new patient clinical examination is £70
A recall clinical examination is £50

Alternatively joining our dental plan is more cost effective option, but only if you are being seen every 3-6 months, which is what we recommend.  Our dental plans are designed to reduce the cost of routine examinations and dental cleans. You also get 10% off any treatment selected when you are on our dental plan.

How do i join your dental plan?

This is typically done on the day of your examination as you can decide to join our dental plan or to carry on as pay as you go. There are monthly and annual options for our dental plan, with the annual option being most  cost effective.

Are you wheel-chair accessible?

Yes we are and we provide disabled bathroom facilities.

Do you have onsite parking?

Yes we do, we have plenty of parking onsite and we are located close to Fosse Park Shopping Centre in Leicester.

How do I book?

You can book online, selecting the option of clinical examination or you can give us a call on 0116 4030109 and we can arrange it for you.

Can i have treatment done on the same day as my clinical examination?

Typically not, unless there is enough time for the treatment after your clinical examination. Ideally if you urgently need treatment such as a filling, root canal or extraction, we recommend booking in for an urgent appointment instead of a clinical exam. Once the treatment is completed under the urgent appointment, we would still recommend booking in for a clinical exam. The reason is so that we can see the full picture of your situation regarding your oral health and ensure prevention/underlying causes are dealt with for long term stability.
